FAQ
Q: How do I become a member?
A: Rhythm X is an audition only independent indoor drumline. Each year auditions will take place in
late October and at that time you are encouraged to audition for the instrument that most suits
your abilities.
Q: Will my high school program interfere with Rhythm X?
A: We encourage all prospective members to participate in their high school programs and make those
programs priority. If your high school offers an indoor drumline program than you are expected to
consider this before auditioning for Rhythm X. We are also sensitive to high school programs that
participate in OMEA concert band and solo and ensemble contests and you are expected to attend
all high school functions and we will help work around those for you.
Q: How often are practices?
A: During the months of October and November we rehearse twice a month and that usually works
out to every other weekend. December through April we practice 3 weekends a month which sometimes
is almost every weekend.
Q: Will this interfere with Drum Corps?
A: Almost 40 percent of Rhythm X marches in a top 17 drum corps. We have members from the Cadets,
Glassmen, Crossmen, Capital Regiment, and the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps. We also work our
schedule around these drum corps schedules to be able to give our members the opportunity to be
at both rehearsals.
Q: How much are fees?
A: Audition fee for each camp is $65 Season Fees are $850 for Vets and $900 for New Members.
If you make it the second audition fee will go towards your 2007-2008 fees
Q: Do you offer fundraisers?
A: We offer a couple different fundraisers during the season which help drive down fees. Please do not
rely totally on fundraisers due to the nature of fundraising. In our ensemble this season we had a
few members raise within $200 of the ensemble fee's by doing fundraisers.
Q: Will Rhythm X interfere with extra curricular activities?
A: We will not practice during the school week except for Fridays and Saturdays. If you play a sport
that has conflicts with Friday's and Saturday's then it would not be wise to audition for the ensemble.
Q: Can my parents help out with the ensemble?
A: We encourage all members to get their parents involved with the Rhythm X support group. This group
helps get us off and on the floor at all shows. Helps sew uniforms and build props and paint. We love
our parents organization and without them we would not be possible.
Q: How can I get a ride to practice?
A: We have members coming from all over Ohio and the surrounding states. Getting a ride once you
make the ensemble is usually not a problem. In the event that you make the ensemble and no one is
coming from your area you are still responsible for getting to and from practice.
Q: What is the ensemble size?
A: Rhythm X owns a complete battery of 10 snares, 5 tenors, and 5 basses, and 6 pair of cymbals.
We also own a complete front ensemble of 3 marimbas, 2 vibes, and 1 xylophone as well and an entire
set of auxiliary equipment. We have enough instruments to field an ensemble of 46+.
Q: What grips does the ensemble use?
A: The snare line plays traditional grip. The keyboards use Stevens and the Burton grip. if you are not
familiar with these techniques they will be explained at the first audition camp.
